It's amazing what the right wedding gown can do for your figure! It's all about knowing how to work with what you have. Some general pointers:
- A-line wedding gowns are the best at enhancing your overall figure
- Ball Gowns (also known as Cinderella or Princess wedding dresses) with full skirts are best at camouflaging large hips
- Wrapping effects, ruching and pleats are amazing at defining your waist
- Gowns that have pleating, heavy beading or lots of detail on the bust area make the bust seem larger
- Empire waist dresses will make you seem taller by giving an uninterrupted line from under your bust to the floor. They are also great at concealing a tummy and/or moderately wide hips.
- If you are confident in your figure you may want to consider either a Mermaid wedding dress (also called Fit and Flare or Trumpet). This style will accentuate your curves and can be very flattering on the right bride.
- Tall and lean? Pretty much anything will look good on you! If you're after an understated elegance then consider a Sheath wedding dress (also called Column or Slim-line) which has a straight and narrow silhouette.
- Chiffon bridal gowns and Organza wedding dresses are great for plus-size women as they give a light and floaty effect
- Finally, consider your overall size vs. the statement the dress is making. You want to wear the dress rather than the dress wearing you! If you are very petite, steer clear of an elaborate Ball Gown with lots of beading and lace.
